Abstract: A mathematical model called“three parameter model”which can be used to detect current efficiency continuously in aluminium production has been developed. The model includes: (1) calculation of physical fields in the cell; (2) calculation of temperature, anode-cathode distance, Al-electrolyte interfacial tension and aluminium concentration factor; (3) comprehensive mechanism model of aluminium loss. The current efficiency and current distribution of 160kA prebaked cells were measured. Experimental results show the“three parameter model”is valuable in aluminium electrolysis.
