Abstract: The flowing process of filtered and unfiltered molten metal was investigated through hydraulic simulation. The equations for pressure loss was established according to hydraulics and mathematic deduction. The pressure loss model obtained can be used to predict the flow velocity and filling time of molten metal, and also can be used as a guidance when adapting ceramic filters for a casting system. The total loss of flowing pressure and its affecting factors were analyzed. The results show that the pressure loss is related to the flowing velocity and especially the enlargement coefficient of transverse area of filter(K). When K=4-6 , the pressure loss is the lowest and the effective pressure of molten metal flow can be ensured.
