Abstract: The microstructures of nanosized alumina powders prepared by sol-gel routine were systematically studied with transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer. It was found that the morphologies of alumina gel powders change in t he orders of caterpillar-thorn-granular-dumbbell shaped structures during calcining at temperatures from 20℃ to 800℃, 1200℃ and 1300℃. The caterpillar shaped structure composed of strings with a diameter of 5nm.
