Abstract: HNO3 was calculated to have much more larger thermodynamical tendency to oxidate copper, nickel and iron sulphides than FeCI3. The frontline orbits theory also confirmed that NO3- reacted with nickel and iron sulphides more easily than Fes3+ . The results of leaching Cu-Ni sulphide ore with FeCI3 and HNO3 were theoretically interpreted.
Key words: Cu-Ni sulphide ore; leach; ferric chloride; nitric acid
