Abstract: The features of the surface subsidence basin caused by mining in the deep-lying seams are associated with the width of the coal pillar between two working faces. If the pillar is wide, a waved subsidence basin will occur on the surface. If the pillar is narrow, the maximum surface subsidence value will be very great. The influence of the interval pillar to the stress distribution caused by mining in the deep-lying seam was specially studied by using a three-dimensional finite-difference FLAC3D program. The techniques mining in the deep-lying seams under buildings were presented.
