Abstract: To decrease the diamond tool wear and improve the surface quality of the workpieces, ultrasonic vibration was applied to diamond turning of titanium alloy. The effect of vibration parameters on the surface roughness and the tool wear was analyzed. The results show that vibration parameters have great effects on the surface roughness and tools life. Under given conditions, the smaller the vibrating amplitude is, the larger the surface roughness(R_a) is , and the more rapidly the tools is worn. Accordingly, the higher the vibrating frequency is, the smaller the surface roughness is and the longer the tools life is. The surface roughness value (R_a) is less than 0.15μm when vibrating amplitude is 14μm and vibrating frequency is 40kHz in the experiments.
