Abstract: The compressive deformation behaviors of the extruded AZ91 at temperatures around the solidus were investigated. The compressive stress—strain curves were measured, and the hot deformation microstructures were observed. Dynamic recovery (DRV) and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) take place during compression. The main deformation mechanism is climbing of dislocations controlled by the lattice diffusion. The presence of the liquid relaxes the stress concentration which facilitates the deformation. Higher activation energy is attributed to the non-basal sliding in addition to the presence of liquid phases.
